Wuzhou city, E Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, S China, a port on the Xi River at the mouth of the Gui River. Wuzhou city is very close to Guangdong province limit.Wuzhou now has a population of more than 0.8 million (including Cangwu county) and is adjacent to Zhaoqing, Guangdong. Xunjian, Guijiang and Xijiang Rivers come confluent in the city proper and flow down stream towards the east to Zhaoqing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao, and go up stream to Guilin, Liuzhou and Nanning. It enjoys the good name of the “Water Gateway of Guangxi” and is the important central city in southeast of Guangxi and the “Xijiang Economic Corridor”. Since the city enjoys geographic advantage of linking up Southwest China and Pearl River Delta, and being close to Hong Kong and Macao, in March 1988, the city was authorized by the State Council as a coastal economic opening zone.

Wuzhou opened as a trading port to other countries early in 1897. Today as one of the ten largest inland river ports in China, the port of Wuzhou becomes a class A port of the country. The port is fully equipped with all necessary foreign trade departments, passenger and cargo ships to Hong Kong and Macao, a modernized containers docks with annual handling capacity of 1 million tons, 100 large and small docks as well as enough storehouses etc...

It is an important trade and shipping center on the Guangxi-Guangdong border. The city has a variety of light and heavy industries, including textile mills, food-processing factories, and chemical plants. Generally speaking, the port’s total export value accounts one forth to one-third of that of Guangxi.
